Most ERP projects fail not because of the software, but because the organisation was not ready.

Choosing an ERP is a multi-year decision. Before comparing vendors, answer these questions honestly.

1. Are your processes documented?

If two people in one department describe a process differently, software will not fix that.

2. Is your master data clean?

Item codes, duplicate customers and inconsistent units are the first things to hurt during migration.

3. Who owns the project?

An ERP is not an IT project; without an accountable executive, priorities get lost in meetings.

  • Budget training separately.
  • Keep parallel reports for the first six months.
  • Write the success criteria before you start.
